Art Meets Beauty: Basquiat x Urban Decay

It was a pleasure to attend a L'Óréal Luxe Event yesterday with fellow bloggers in Limerick where we were given the opportunity to view and test out some exciting new beauty releases from brands such as Armani, Lancôme and Kiehls Skincare. If you follow my Snapchat Stories you will be aware that there was one collection in particular that absolutely blew me away for the sheer creativity and originality it exudes. The artistic collaboration between Urban Decay Cosmetics and Jean Michel Basquiat is so special that it deserves a solo article to honour this remarkable artist and imaginative beauty collection in more detail.

The Artist

"Jean Michel Basquiat was here" by Morgan Paslier

Brooklyn Born Basquiat was one of the most acclaimed contemporary artists of his generation and leaves the legacy of having lived a short yet epic life. The creativity of his artworks knew no bounds as he combined colourful imagery with poetic text in his graffiti style creations which formed part of the Neo-Expressionism Movement of New York. The meaningful themes of his art included social injustice, slavery, racism and the internal struggle. In his short career he broke boundaries and shot to fame quickly becoming friends with Andy Warhol. Tragically the limelight took its toll on Jean Michel Basquiat as he died from an overdose at the tender age of 27, yet the intelligence of his creative talents will forever live on.

The Collection

This collaboration seems like the perfect fit as "like Urban Decay Basquiat was an outsider who challenged the status quo and used colour in nontraditional ways".  Every precious detail of the special edition products from shadow and blush palettes to lipsticks and eye pencils are inspired by Basquiat's artwork from the colour selections and names to the remarkable packaging. Explore for yourself below!

The Look

This subtle smokey eye was created using the shades "Levitation" and "Crown" from the Gold Griot Palette on the upper lid accompanied by the 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in the shade "Anatomy" below the eye.
